Owners of 2008-2009 MacBook Air laptops and late 2008 to Sept 2010 models can now make their machines faster than the newest models by installing an OWC Aura Pro MBA SSD. Besides adding a 20% speed boost in boot, app load, and overall system responsiveness, the OWC Aura Pro MBA SSD provides the flexibility for up to 4x more capacity than originally offered by the factory. All of which come with award-winning, ultra-efficient Block Management & Wear Leveling technologies to virtually eliminate any speed reduction over long term use of the drive. And for hard drive equipped 2008-2009 MacBook Air owners, there's the added benefit of having the rugged dependability of a SSD that offers up to 100x greater reliability than traditional hard drives. Go faster, go bigger, go rougher.with the OWC Aura Pro 1.8' SSD. 'Mean Time To Failure' – We all know that nothing lasts forever.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't get the most out of your investment. OWC SSD with Durawrite™ Technology, optimizes writes to the flash memory over conventional controllers increasing the overall endurance and reliability of the complete SSD. Highly intelligent block management and wear leveling also extends the overall endurance.

With this technology, even MLC-based SSDs can operate for years in demanding use applications without daily write restrictions. This adds up to a MTTF that is higher than most enterprise class hard drives and SSDs on the market today. Additionally, as there are no volatile memory elements in this storage device, the need for cache is completely negated. The drive is just that fast from the get-go!. 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending upon operating environment (typically 5-10% less). The actual total capacity will depend on your own defined file settings/preferences.

In terms of standard gigabytes, 1GiB ≈ 1.074GB and refers to the actual formatted capacity of shown under Mac OS 10.5 or earlier and Microsoft Windows OS. Specific application environments such as temperature and duty cycle will affect the overall reliability rates. Based on SandForce processor operation. Specifications provided by SandForce.

Verified Buyer Reviewer: Alguien Location: Barcelona, Spain Age: 55-65 Experience Level: IT Professional Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 Excellent results July 2, 2018 With the only exception of a light difficult sliding out the original disk from a MBAir and sliding in the new one, the results have been excellent. Easy installation, clear instructions at the video, tools fitting without any problem and, alt last but not least, my old MBAir is now useful again. Obviously with just 2 Gb of RAM nobody expects fireworks performance, but the general throughput is more than acceptable with the new SSD drive. I would recommend this item to a friend!

November 6, 2016 I bought my used MacBook Air (Mid-2009) from Amazon without knowing that its the early model that came without SSD and its was having 2 GB RAM so its was very slow when upgrade to Yosemite. I seen OWC offer on SSD which is compatible with my MacBook Air so I went for it after thinking twice. The Result was awesome as I'm using the Mac now at work for personal staff.

July 20, 2016 Got this drive in the garage sale for a reasonable price. Made the Macbook air usable again. Its not going to run crazy programs mind you. But emal, surfing and MS Office are quick and responsive.

Good boot, load and not the beachball all the time. Money well spent IMHO. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Wellington, NZ Age: 25-34 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 4/5 Does it's job well, fast shipping, great customer service May 17, 2016 I ordered the hard drive to replace a broken non-SSD in my MacBookAir 2,1. It got shipped very fast to overseas (NZ) and was packed well. It would have been nice to find a quick note in the package that the size and the connection of the drive are not identical with the old drive and maybe a link or hint to the installation video.

First I thought I ordered/received a wrong type of SSD. I got quite confused and called the customer service, where I got immediate and sufficient help. The installation video is also very good. In my opinion the necessity of the sharp bend in the cable (180degree) and the tight fit of the SSD is not good. Also, it does not sit well on the adhesives because of the connector/cable bend that is slightly thicker than the drive.

But it works well and my computer speeded up quite a lot. I would recommend this item to a friend! Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Age: 55-65 Experience Level: IT Professional Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 5/5 good product December 8, 2015 I bought this for my early MAC Book Air I was not 100% sure about the right product and had to chat with a sales associates who told me it would work. Now, that this is said, the picture was not correct on the website. It did not include the items that ALSO came with the drive. A needed screwdriver set and prying tool, but more important than that, the right connected needed to connect the drive.

The picture on the www did not do it proper justice. A job well done OWC. Thank you I would recommend this item to a friend! Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: NJ, FL, PA Age: 35-44 Experience Level: Home User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 4/5 need to fold the 'cable' December 4, 2015 great drive, but the drive is a bit long length-wise to comfortably fit into the MBA mid-2009.

Either that, or they need to make a new interface cable so that you do not need to fold the cable sharply to squeeze the drive in. Installation otherwise was easy.

I feel like the folded cable could break any day though and I am not sure that getting a replacement cable will be easy to do. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Washington, DC Rating: 4/5 Pleasantly surprised! February 8, 2015 My mid-2009 MacBook Air's performance improved markedly when I replaced the SATA spin drive with a new SSD.

Bootup, shutdown, awake from sleep, and between multiple open windows and tabs are all much faster. I had never cracked open a laptop before, but the online videos made the task truly straightforward. A fun project for my 11-year-old and me! Highly recommend the upgrades touted here - much more economical than buying a new computer, and yes! You can do it yourself! I would recommend this item to a friend!

Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: New Zealand Age: 55-65 Experience Level: Home User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 5/5 240gb SSD Essential upgrade for original MBA 2.1 HDD 120gb December 4, 2014 Essential upgrade for HDD, you will be amazed at the speed difference from HDD First time I have attempted replacing anything internal so I used iPhone 4s and Airplay or Apple TV to pause the free OWC website 'How to' video onto Samsung TV. Large image paused made it easy to see images. I had a problem with a tight squeeze getting SSD connecter into SSD cradle and had to bend ribbon into place. I encountered four MBA issues (unrelated to SSD) and if you follow what I did, you will fit it in and you will be amazed at the difference this SSD makes.

I will now keep the Mid 2009 MBA 2,1 for years to come. SSD works perfectly with Yosmite 10.10 Newbies, for confidence, I suggest you invest in inexpensive anti-static wrist band as risk of frying electronics with carpet or body static is too great. My processes: I did a complete fresh reinstall or everything.

Make a full back-up copy of original HDD as OWC do not have a matching 1.8' USB enclosure so I couldn't mount replaced faulty HDD and fix it as a back-up. SSD works perfectly with Yosmite 10.10 (You will have to re-install original OS and then upgrade OS via App Store then re-download apps from App Store. When I upgraded to Yosemite the MBA kept freezing. I wasn't sure if the conflicts were SSD related so after doing all known conflict processes, I moved all 3rd party apps into the trash and added back one at a time and restarted each time.

Owc Aura Ssd High Sierra

I had two 3rd party apps that seriously conflicted and froze trackpad and keyboard with only PWR button operational but computer was working in the background) My instructions on resolving MBA related installation issues. 2 different length screws to secure MBA back case so take note of video.

All went to plan until: I had to loosen battery screws and twist battery anti-clockwise a bit to pry off a ribbon and little black connector between HDD enclosure and the edge of the battery to access screw. It wasn't obvious why they were stuck on the underside. Video appeared to show loose ribbon. Nerve wracking. I used supplied spudger to gently pry ribbon and black connector off.

All OK as they were both stuck on with some kind of soft glue/sealer. Internal screws easy to remove except one on the front left of enclosure that was seized.

After mangling screw head with supplied screwdriver, I carefully put a drop of Electronics cleaner onto screwdriver and placed around thread of stripped screw head and gently wriggled HDD enclosure sideways and another drop of cleaner but struggled to move screw. While seated, I put MBA onto my knee directly underneath the screw and applied increasing pressure turning with screwdriver, wiggled, applied pressure, repeated a couple of times and it loosened.

This took sweat, patience and 10 minutes to do. I was worried about damaging electronics underneath the screw, stripping thread or breaking screw (SSD is taped not screwed in place so I had all of the redundant screws to replace the stripped screw head. I later discovered I could also have cut through screw surround as the HDD cradle is now removed and redundant!).

Bit of a fiddle to fit ribbon connector into SSD cradle and had to use force to bend up to fit in. When re-assembling, as per video, be careful not to pinch the long wire (running along the bottom) with back cover or run cable too close to screws. It felt a bit forced to screw on back cover on so I removed and re tucked cable around screws and edge and it easily screwed together. Don't force it or wire will be compromised. The supplied spudger and screwdriver is all you need to do the upgrade but if a screw is seized, I suggest a more robust screwdriver to apply serious pressure, or as I subsequently discovered, I could have hacked off the cradle beside the screw anchor point as the HDD cradle is now redundant. Based on my experience, its about 7 - 9 times faster in read/write speeds. I would definitely recommend upgrading to SSD from regular spinning HDD. Only minor problem I had was that the ribbon cable was somewhat backwards, so all I did was to fold the ribbon cable a little and place the bottom cover of the MBA trying to avoid pressure. Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Nice, France Age: 25-34 Experience Level: IT Professional Owned Product: over 6 months Rating: 4/5 Good product, but provided cable is awkward to install September 30, 2014 Very good product in order to give a second life to an old MacBook Air. If you plan to install Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks on your MacBook Air you'll definitely need to have such an SSD in your laptop, otherwise the original 4200 RPM HDD that came in standard with some cheap MacBook Air is really far too slow to run Mavericks correctly (don't even think about it!). Cons: the provided 'Flat Flex' cable that you need to use in order to connect this SSD to your MacBook Air's motherboard is awkward to install: you need to bend it at 180° in order to fit in (because the cable is not oriented in the right way), which is probably a little bit dangerous for such cable.

That's why I'm removing one star for this product. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Verified Buyer Top 250 Contributor Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Jerusalem, Israel Age: 55-65 Experience Level: Home User Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 Very satisfied August 2, 2014 My 2008 MacAir hard drive started causing problems in 2012. Instead of dumping the computer I replaced the hard drive with this SSD. Installation was easy with OWC video. Computer performance was great for 2 years after which it was decommissioned due to hinge and battery problems. The drive still works great. Highly recommended upgrade path to lengthen the life of older computer.

Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Fukuoka, Japan Age: 45-54 Experience Level: Home User Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 This is good enough! February 3, 2014 Tracking system didn't work well probably due to overseas shipment, so I was a little anxious until the product arrived safely.

The installation into Macbook Air was easy, but the SSD was not formatted, so I had difficulty in installing OS for the first time. Disk utility could recognize the SSD but I couldn't install OS because the device was read only, the utility said. So I had to format it and install OS outside Macbook Air. But after all, this SSD is good enough! No delay of response. Macbook Air(2009) is still competent with the newer ones.

I am quite satisfied now. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Denmark Age: 25-34 Experience Level: Home User Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 Easy, fast, cheap August 16, 2013 I ordered the 120GB Aura SSD on a Monday and received it already Wednesday in Denmark. The price was low enough not to pay any tax. After having made a thumb drive with Mountain Lion and following the installation video on the OWC website fitting the hard drive was no problem at all.

After installing Mountain Lion I immediately saw and increase of response and speed of my MacBook Air 2008 and I would strongly recommend anyone with this computer to do the same upgrade. I would recommend this item to a friend! Verified Buyer Reviewer: oldsears Location: Canada Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 A must do improvement for your laptop May 17, 2012 for some reason, with Lion installed on my MacBood Air, the computer speed decreased substantially. This is a lot more noticeable when you get used to an iPad and the speed you get from switching apps, safari, etc. Going back to my laptop was always a pain but also necessary. I decided to try the SSD drive and what a difference it makes.

Booting up is amazingly fast, surfing, iphoto is also amazing. I have over 5000 images in iphoto and the old drive took several seconds to a minute to open up. Now with the SSD, it opens up in one or two seconds. I'm so impressed that I plan to replace the drive in my wife's macbook pro and the mac mini I use as a media server.
